Taffie A. Bentley

Taffie Bentley was born in Macon, Georgia, in 1941 but moved to New Britain, Connecticut, as a young child, where she lived until her marriage in 1972. She worked at Travelers Insurance for many years before moving on to CRT and OIC during its early years. After having children, Taffie began working for the State of Connecticut and retired from the Medical Examiner’s Office at the age of 70.

Taffie now resides in Bristol, Connecticut, with her late husband, Henry. They have two sons and five grandchildren.

Her passion for photography began at the age of 7, when she first picked up an old Brownie camera, and it has remained a constant in her life ever since. Although she never received formal training, she took various classes to refine her skills, always following her instinct to capture the perfect shot when she saw it. Taffie specializes in close-up or macro photography, fascinated by the intricate details of butterfly wings, flowers, and the natural world. She also enjoys photographing rocks, mountains, waterfalls, and cityscapes, particularly those of New York.

In addition to her photography, Taffie is a musician and storyteller, currently singing with Nzinga’s Daughters. She was a member of Sam Kimble’s band for many years, always carrying her camera to capture those spontaneous moments. As it becomes more difficult to run around with her camera, Taffie enjoys watching her grandchildren and family members chase their dreams. She remains passionate about supporting young people and continues to capture those special moments on film.
