October at QANC

Hello, wonderful friends and supporters!

We’re stepping into October with a heart full of gratitude and excitement, and we can’t wait to share all the happenings at Queen Ann Nzinga Center.

Open House Success

On September 21, we welcomed families at our Open House, and it was a fantastic success! We were delighted that so many of our partners were able to attend and exchange information. They all play a vital role in the community that helps Queen Ann Nzinga Center thrive.

We welcomed new children and new friends into the QANC family. We even got a visit from our local Representative Francis Cooley! We are so grateful for his support and recognition of the impact Watoto and We’re Grownish have on youth across Greater New Britain.

Wilma has been part of Dayna’s work since the beginning!

We also saw old friends like Wilma Barbosa-Holley, who was a Counselor-In-Training when Dayna started her first job with the OIC supervising their Summer Youth Employment Program. Together they were responsible for the Mount Pleasant Housing Community. It’s wonderful to have this connection back to where this work all began, and inspires us to keep moving forward!

The day was filled with vibrant Hispanic-themed arts and crafts, delicious food, and lively music from Socky Y La Nueva Creación. Most importantly, we got the kids buzzing with excitement about returning to Watoto, which kicks off again this Saturday, October 5th! There’s still time to enroll your child—sign up here!

Upcoming Events

Trick-or-Treat

For more Fall fun, we look forward to seeing you at New Britain’s Halloween Trick-or-Treat Safe Zone. We’ll be dressing up, handing out candy, and sharing all the great things happening at Watoto with families. Mark your calendars for October 31, from 5 PM to 8 PM, in downtown New Britain. We look forward to seeing your costume!

CT Rhythm & Blues Festival

We are over the moon to announce that our talented Watoto singers have been invited to perform at the Connecticut Rhythm & Blues Festival! A big thank you to Scott Sebastian and the Connecticut Blues Society for their incredible support. This groovy concert series will take place on November 9, from 2 PM to 10 PM at Trinity-on-Main. Watoto singers will be performing alongside big names like John Nemeth, Solomon Hicks, and Lee-Ann Lovelace. It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase our local talent, and we couldn’t be prouder!

Thank you for continuing to support Queen Ann Nzinga Center! We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.
