Plainville community members and neighbors areinvited to attend a roundtable discussion group entitled “Plainville Unites: A Celebration & Conversation About Diversity and Inclusion Here at Home” on Thursday, February 22nd starting at 5:30 pm.
The event will occur at the Plainville Public Library, located at 56 East Main Street in Plainville. Refreshments will be provided. The event is free and open to the public; no registration is required. The featured guest speaker will be Dr. Tawana Graham-Douglas, Director for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment in Plainville Community Schools.
Tawana has over 28 years of experience in education, with 16 of those years as a classroom teacher. She has also served in various other capacities including building principal, Curriculum Coordinator, Head Teacher, instructional coach, summer program coordinator, after-school program supervisor, and Fiscal Manager at the University of Connecticut.From 2013 to 2019, Tawana co-chaired Plainville Schools’ Equity Committee. The districtwide committee partnered with members of the school community to become more aware of assumptions and biases, better understand the increasing diversity within schools, and develop skills and practices to better meet the needs of students. Over the course of her career, Tawana has had the pleasure of presenting at both regional and national conferences and workshops on various topics, including several equity-related presentations.Tawana holds a doctoral degree from Central Connecticut State University, and she possesses a Master of Education degree from the University of New Haven, a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut, and an Aspiring District Leaders certification from Harvard University.
